Signals Log

Signals worth tracking.

Signals are durable records of adaptation pressure: what changed, who must respond, which sources support the read, and when the question should be checked again.

The Rent Algorithm Gets a Data Boundary

And the terms push scrutiny upstream, toward the information feeding the rent-setting system.

The Insider Does Not Need a Badge

An authorized agent can hold insider access without looking like a human badge-holder.

Recent signal

Every Citation Was Real

A bibliography can contain valid references while repeatedly excluding relevant branches of the available literature.

Recent signal

The Clip Changed Clothes

A detector score belongs to a particular version of a file.

Recent signal

The Answer Passed. The Route Failed.

If operators grade only the output, they may miss which skills entered the session, which calls were necessary, how much the route cost, and whether a third-party instruction expanded the path.

The Assistant Started the Intimate Part

A general-assistant label may conceal relational behavior that emerges during use, including who introduces intimate topics.

Recent signal

The Workday Has Weather

Digital fragmentation can change more from one workday to the next than fixed labels about workers or organizations suggest.

Recent signal

The Agent Already Read It

A clean answer can hide how much unrelated data an agent already pulled into context.

Recent signal

The Next Problem Is the Test

Immediate task completion can conceal what someone retained. The next unsupported attempt reveals more.

Recent signal

The Safety Score Needs Coordinates

A benchmark score needs its behavior, metric, panel, harness, outside check, and uncertainty attached.

Recent signal

The Moat Moved Upstairs

Cheaper model access can widen the starting gate while advantage accumulates in the surrounding capability stack.

Recent signal

The Network Worked. The App Didn't.

A healthy peer connection can coexist with a broken local application boundary. The missing layer is a repair path with an address.

Recent signal

The Deactivation Needs a Receipt.

Convention No. 193 describes how automated decisions affecting pay or access to platform work could produce a written reason, a review path, evidence, and human involvement.

Recent signal

The Tool Enters the Time Diary.

A proposed national time-diary module could show where AI enters ordinary tasks while keeping claims about time and productivity outside the evidence.

Recent signal

The Tool Changes Sides.

When technology shapes a high-consequence decision, ask what the affected person can understand, inspect, correct, and contest.

Recent signal

The Fix Fell Between the Agents.

An accurate review does not establish repair. Follow each finding into the changed artifact and its verification result.

Recent signal

The Comment Section Has a Second Audience.

One webpage can contain several authorship zones. A crawler may flatten them into one training document.

Recent signal

When nuclear micropower joins the rideshare.

A new mobility proposal makes nuclear micropower a transport, licensing, maintenance, and public-trust question.

Current lead signal

When AI compute becomes a public utility bargain.

New Jersey and Florida are turning large AI/data-center loads into tariff, water, local-planning, and ratepayer-protection questions.

Recent signal

When agentic commerce leaves the demo store.

Visa and Mastercard point to the same operating problem: once software agents can buy, transaction trust needs identity, limits, authorization records, and dispute facts.

Recent signal

When agents start paying agents.

Agent payment systems turn authorization, spending limits, reputation, disputes, and repair into one governance surface.

Previous signal

When compute becomes a grid customer.

FERC, NERC, and EIA signals show computational load moving into tariff design, reliability modeling, cost allocation, and public infrastructure negotiation.

Vehicle governance signal

When the vehicle standard becomes the road.

A narrower brake-standard proposal and a withdrawn transparency proposal show automated-driving governance moving into the standards that shape the road itself.

Publisher infrastructure signal

When crawler identity becomes economic infrastructure.

Cloudflare’s crawler categories connect search access, agent behavior, training controls, freshness signals, and publisher payment experiments.

Signal card anatomy

Each signal leaves a record.

  • What changed: the concrete source-backed update.
  • Why it matters: the adaptation burden created by the update.
  • Source class: official, filing, research, measurement, company note, or internal observation.
  • Uncertainty: what would change the read.
  • Next check: a date or condition for review.
Calibration value

Signals should become checkable.

A signal becomes more useful when it can produce a future-facing question. The question does not need to predict everything. It needs a clear resolution surface, a current answer, and a reason to check back.
